Austrian or Hungarian work, embodying the remarkable skills of the medieval armorer. The head of semicircular form tapering continuously from the substantial round poll to the edge. The unique back spike, both robust elegant, of diamond section and double-waved, terminating in a downward-angled, acutely pointed armor-piercing tip. On its hardwood haft set with iron studs and faceted silver cap. 16th-17th century. Minor wear overall. Haft possibly a working life replacement. Overall length 77.5cm / 30 ??. Condition II
