Description
A fully-mounted latter Edo era wakizashi, with koshirae comprising fine fuchi and kashira of iron inlaid with gold and silver. With black tsuka ito and shakudo menuki, and black lacquered saya with en suite koiguchi, hand inscribed: PRESENTO (sic) to POLLACK FROM TOMODA, and a Japanese inscription. The copper kozuka with gilt highlights depicting a horse, with signed kogatana. The iron tsuba with silver liners and shakudo plug, silver seppa and copper habaki. The robust older mumei blade out of polish with much of its straight temperline and some grain visible. Latter 18th-early 19th century. Blade worn, sharpening marks, kizu to one side, saya scratched and chipped. Overall length 56.6cm / 22.3? nagasa 37cm / 14.56? Condition III
