Description
Of characteristic Balkan form, the large-eared hilt and mounts wrought entirely of silver, superbly embossed and engraved in characteristic vine motifs overall. The well-wrought blade with elaborate silver inlay including the name of the smith WORK OF MEHMED as well as that of the patron, OWNER BAMAN and the date: YEAR 1221 (1805/06 c, e, ) maker?s mark. In its en suite leather-covered wooden scabbard with wire seam, the silver and brass locket and chape embellished en suite with the hilt. Dated 1805/06. Minor wear. Overall length 70cm./ 27 ? inches.
