Description
Characteristic of English swords produced by German smiths, the hilt a marvel of smithing, comprising a dish guard with rolled edge surmounted by a circular guard from which springs a long quillon together with a triple-branch knucklebow which meets the spherical pommel. Profusely profiled and chiseled throughout. The bone grip writhen and set with a pair of ferrules. The exceptionally long, straight, double-edged blade with obtuse tip of flattened lenticular section, struck at the left forte, + ABRAHAM STAMM +and at the right, + IN SOLINGEN +. 17th century. Grip with old, stable crack, blade with original sharpening marks, well worn. Overall length 108cm./ 42 1/2 inches. Condition III
