Description
A rare fully-mounted latter Edo era issaku (all original matching koshirae) sword in kamon fittings, including two noble mons indicating a very high ranking owner. With fine iron mounts embellished in silver and gold, black tsuka ito and gilt shakudo menuki, and saya carved of ebony incised with mons, with separately applied carved terminal, the signed kogatana with shakudo and gold kozuka depicting a dragon. The mumei blade of hira-zukuri form attributed to the UDA school in the accompanying NBTHK dated 1976 at the Kicho level. The straight temperline with clear turnback and active grain. Retains its shira saya storage mounts and bag. Latter 18th-early 19th century. Minor wear to blade. Overall length 58cm / 22.8 inches nagasa 31.4cm / 12.36 inches Condition II
