Description
A massive example, the grip composed of sections or dark horn and bone separated by bands of copper and brass, with circular inlays and brass stud set in geometrical motifs, the bolster brass. The long, broad blade wrought of rare Ottoman wootz, actively grained with silver-gray contrast. In its leather scabbard with turned bone finial. Mid-19th century. These daggers are often identified as Kurdish, a group which often carried them, though they were typically made in what is now Eastern Turkiye. Minor wear. Overall length 42.8cm. Condition II
