Description
Possibly Swedish, the complex hilt finely forged of rectangular section bars with broad ring guards at either side, the larger obverse with a winged angel’s face, with ribbed ovoid pommel, the wooden grip with wire wrap retains its turkshead knots. The broad, double-edged blade wrought with a rectangular forte with short fuller to either side, struck with marks and almost parallele edged witith only slight taper to its rounded cutting tip. First quarter of the 17th century. Worn overall, blade with areas of pitting. Overall length 94.5cm. Condition III
