Description
The horn shashka-form grips with applied brass crescent to the pommel and brass, Ertogrul-style guard, the shallowly-curved bifullered blade with radiused tip. Latter 19th century. Light wear. Following the 1864 diaspora, hundreds of thousands of Circassians were welcomed into the Ottoman Empire. This type of saber was designed to bridge the gap between Ottoman military regulations and the shashka used by the formidable mountaineers. Overall length 102cm. Condition III
