Description
A rarely-encountered variant, with massive, faceted steel pommel and wire-wrapped wooden grip with turkshead knots intact, the steel guard with expanded quillons terminating in points, with scalloped guards to each side. The robust blade with narrow forte, expanding abruptly and then tapering again, remaining parallel-edged for much of its length and finally tapering to an acute point near the tip. Of hexagonal section, wrought with a narrow central fuller for a third of its length and struck with a Hungarian Cross. Latter 16th century. Worn overall, areas of rust. Overall length 105.8cm. Condition III
