Description
German work, with elongated and faceted bulb-form steel pommel and stepped, leather-covered wooden grip, the finely-profiled steel guard with recurved brass terminals and short, projecting finger-guard decorated en suite. Retains its original leather sleeve. The massive blade narrows almost immediately from the broad forte to a robust, rectangular, bifullered section, expanding again fully at the broad tip with central ridge. With rectangular aperture for lug (now lacking.)
First half of the 16th century. Scattered areas of shallow pitting. Overall length 138.7cm. Condition III
