Description
Mughal work, the elegant hilt inlaid overall in fine and elaborate goldwork, the heirloom blade of complex form, well-forged of dramatically-patterned black wootz steel, with prominent T-back decorated with punchwork retaining some red wax inlay, and broad back edge, inlaid brass disks and faint chiseled decorations at the forte. 17th-18th century. Light wear. Inlaid disks are considered a sign of high quality on earlier Indian blades. Overall length 84cm. Condition III
