Description
Spanish or Italian work. The restored cup is finely cast with bold vine motifs interspersed with cartouches containing sea beasts and Roman emperors, together with the Imperial Roman Double-headed Eagle, with the pommel and quillons terminating in flattened beads; the grip retains its complex steel wire wrap with turkshead knots intact. The fine long, double-edged blade superbly wrought with waved edges for its entire length. Beginning of the 17th century. Cup guard a 19th century replacement. Overall length 126.3cm. Condition III
