Description
Mounted entirely in polished bone and finely carved in relief throughout in Medieval style. The date 1344 featured prominently on the grip, together the Cross of Lorraine and multiple portraits of St. Catherine and Humbert II, Dauphin of the Viennois, commemorating his victory during the 1344 Smyrna Crusade, which established a 50- year European rule over that Aegean port. Humbert II established the knightly Order of Saint Catherine in commemoration. Mounted with a well-forged pattern-welded damascus blade retaining considerable original edge. 18th century or later. Minor wear and repair to scabbard. Overall length 44.7cm. Condition II
