Description
Of characteristic form, with brass pommel and guard struck with marks. The curved, fullered blade likewise marked, with faint remains of etched inscription at the spine, likely indicating Chatellerault arsenal. In its steel scabbard with period painted surface. First half of the 19th century. Worn. A small number of these swords were sold to the U.S. government prior to the Civil War. Overall length 98.7cm. Condition IV
