Description
A very early pistol of characteristic form, the hardwood stock inlaid with geometrical mother of pearl plaques, the pommel cap of steel inlaid with brass. With robust miquelet lock and dramatically-patterned pattern-welded barrel with inlaid band decoration and swamped muzzle. Mid-17rh century. Minor wear, triggerguard a working-life addition. Overall length 34.5 cm. Pistols of this type were notably present during the Ottoman-Safavid War (1623-29) and the Siege of Vienna (1683.) Condition III
