Description
Rajput work, formed of thick hide in circular, slightly domed form and lacquered black overall. With four bosses, lacquered and gilt and portraits of Hindu deities overall, expertly rendered, primarily in gold leaf with additional pigments. Surya, the Sun God is depicted at the center, surrounded by nine goddesses (including one with the head of a wild boar, ) riding various animals (and a man) and wielding numerous weapons in their multiple arms. The geometrical border executed in red, green and gold. The reverse with grip rings intact. 18th-19th c. Light wear, some crazing, possible restorations. Diameter 47cm. Condition II
