Description
Comprising a set of four steel plates of rectangular form, lavishly inlaid in gold in elaborate vinework patterns on a russet ground. The breast and back plates larger, fitted with a pair of mail strips terminating in hooked clasps which connect the two together, and fitted with four profiled and gold-inlaid steel buckles to allow them to be strapped to the sideplates, each of which display the characteristic concavity to the upper edge and are likewise fitted with four connecting buckles. Each with padding to the reverse. Mid-19th century. Clasps replaced, padding refreshed. Height of breastplate 28.2cm. Condition II
