Description
A rare and iconic example, the characteristic offset blade with long, straight bit, pierced with a cross and struck with a faint maker’s mark. The fruitwood haft inlaid with engraved bone panels depicting men and animals, together with Christ crucified and an inscription at the butt, S and B on either side of a pair of crossed hammers and the date 1662, all interspersed with inlaid wirework. Dated 1662. Worn, minor losses to inlay work. Overall length 86cm. Condition III
