Description
Characteristic of the Southern Ottoman provinces, the horn grips with rolled pommel, the tangband and guard wrought of silver vinework engraving. The robust, lightly-curved, single-edged Persian heirloom blade finely wrought of Persian black wootz in the famous Ladder pattern, with inlaid cartouche to the right forte inscribed, ABBAS SHAH BANDE-YE VILAYET (ABBAS, SERVANT OF THE RULER OF THE WORLD—Shah Abbas I ruled the Persian Empire from 1588-1629.) In its leather-covered wooden scabbard with large silver mounts embossed and engraved in vinework motifs en suite with the hilt. 18th-19th century. Minor wear, losses to inlay. Overall length 99.2cm./39 1/16 inches. Condition III
