Description
A seldom encountered example, worn by nobles and aristocrats when hunting. With faceted grips, the guard, tangbands and pommel inlaid with gold vinework. The well-wrought wootz blade with deeply serrated edge retaining considerable original sharpness, embellished overall with animals including elephants, lions, deer and rabbits, chiseled and gold-inlaid. In its velvet-covered wooden scabbard with gold-inlaid suspension bands and chape with vinework borders en suite with the hilt. Latter 18th century. Gold inlay rubbed. Overall length 94.4cm./ 37 11/64 inches. Condition III
