Description
Santali People, Bengal, very rarely encountered. A circular shield, handwrought of steel, with brass overlay to the obverse. With rolled rim and pierced border, set with a large central boss, four smaller bosses to retain the grips, and six brass bosses around the periphery. Fitted with a thrusting or blocking arm to one edge and a hook to the other, said to have been used to support a lantern for night fighting. 19th century. Grips lacking. Overall length including arms 60.7cm./ 23 57/64 inches. Condition III
