A high-quality example of characteristic form, made for a Ras, or member of the Ethiopian nobility and carried at the Emperors court. The body covered in velvet and elaborately set with numerous embossed, engraved and gilded mounts, with a stylized sun at the center as is typical. The reverse with leather lining and original grip intact. Late 19th century. Well worn overall. Diameter 44cm./ 17 ¼” Condition II
