Description
A janissary weapon, with characteristic Ottoman hilt, the hardwood grips with rolled pommel, the tangband and guard of brass. The long, well-wrought, broad blade of yataghan form, with engraved panel and inscription and makers mark to the left forte. In its leather-covered wooden scabbard with engraved brass mounts. Early 18th-19th century. Light wear. Overall length 87cm/ 34 ¼ inches. Condition III
