Description
The hilt of characteristic form, grip with original leather covering set with silver bosses and filigreed band at the base typical of Turkmen work, with faceted steel guard and pommel set with a lanyard ring. The robust heirloom Persian blade shows traces of wootz construction and struck with three points. In its leather-covered wooden scabbard with steel mounts and engraved chape, with leather band set with silver studs, Worn. The Turkmen represented a bulwark against Imperial Russian expansion into Central Asia during the 19th century. They fought into the 20th century, against Persians, Russians and others. Overall length 89.5cm / 35 3/4″. Condition III
