Description
Characteristic of swords mounted in the Ottoman provinces, an earlier example with silver guard and pommel and horn grips set with silver studs, and silver wire wrap to base. Mounted with a fine robust Persian heirloom blade, broad, thick, and wrought of fine, boldly patterned and contrasted black wootz, retaining considerable edge. In its leather-covered wooden scabbard with silver suspension bands. 18th-19th century. Minor edge wear, scabbard well worn. Overall length 88.8cm/ 34 7/8 inches. Condition II
