Of characteristic form, the grip carved of a single section of dark horn, with engraved silver pommel connected by a multistrand silver knuckle chain to the finely engraved silver guard. The massive, curved, single-edged Persian heirloom blade with broad central fuller wrought in a fine, Persian black wootz pattern and inscribed in two chiseled cartouches, O JUDGE OF NEEDS! above the Shir e Khorshid, the Iranian lion with sun rising over its shoulder, recognized as a pictogram for the foremost Persian swordsmith, Assad Allah, across Eastern Europe and Asia. In its finely embossed and engraved silver scabbard with wooden core with applied pierced medallions, inscribed at the locket, YEAR 1177 (1763/64) the name illegible. Late18th century.
