Description
Very rarely encountered in the market, a fine Mamluk armor for the knee. Of characteristic construction, comprising a single well-wrought plate with rare engraved motifs including a lobed central cartouche containing an Arabic inscription, likely salutary, between a pair of crescents, set in heavy riveted mail with several lames intact. The mail terminating in three points, protecting the front of the shin and sides of the knees. Well-worn overall, steel patch to reverse, some rings replaced. Overall length 27cm / 10 5/8 inches. Condition IV
