Description
Likely from the atelier of Ernst Schmidt, famed German antique arms dealer. The well-wrought skull with roped comb, the visor with pronounced ridge under the occularia, with a raised panel pierced with breaths beneath as is typical, sharing a common pivot with the bevor, which is secured by a sprung catch. The nape with separately-applied elongated plate, retaining original leather, the borders rolled and roped throughout. Finely profiled plume-holder riveted to base of skull. Mid-19th century. Areas of pitting, visor with slight depression. Overall height 28.5cm/ 11 ¼ inches. Condition III
