Description
A rare fully-mounted early Edo era naginata naoshi sword in wakizashi length, the koshirae comprising fine shakudo fuchi and kashira with goldwork and two-piece copper and silver habaki. With tsuka tsuka
ito and gilt shakudo ebi menuki, the black saya with tiny autumn leaves preserved under a layer of clear lacquer. With shakudo and gold kozuka and heirloom kogatana well worn. The fine chiseled steel tsuba with samurai pondering a stormy sea. The robust Muromachi blade adapted from or influenced by anaginata signed, OSHU JU KANESADA (of the Aizu Kanesada line in Iwashiro.) in good polish with clear and active temperline and grain. 16th century. Minor wear, tsuka ito fraying. Overall length 52.6cm/
