Description
An exceptional example, the polished grips with large, rolled pommel, the brass tangband and guard engraved overall. The massive heirloom Persian blade wrought of dramatically-patterned black wootz, and lavishly inlaid with finely calligraphed Quranic texts in panels at each forte and down the entire right side in high-karat gold; it further bears the chiseled and gold-inlaid lion of Assad Allah together with a chiseled cartouche reading, O FULFILLER OF NEEDS! likewise inlaid in gold and dated 1171 (1757/58.) In its leather-covered wooden scabbard with brass mounts en suite with the hilt. 19th century. Minor wear to sword, scabbard as found. Overall length 94cm. Condition III
