Description
A rare example, with fine antler grips, the pommel, tangbands and guard extensive gold inlay. The fine, long, broad blade of shallow curvature with complex fullering to each side, forged of fine Persian black wootz and retaining considerable original edge, and inscribed with a lengthy Quranic cartouche at the right forte, with a pair of cartouches at the left forte, the upper reading, O JUDGE OF NEEDS, the lower chiseled with the famous lion-symbol of Assad Allah. In its velvet-covered wooden scabbard with gold inlaid steel suspension bands and profiled chape. Latter 18th-early 19th century. Overall length 95cm. Condition III
