Description
Of characteristic form, the elephant butt decorated with birdseye motifs. The walnut stock inlaid with scrolling silver wire and finely inlaid with numerous large profiled and engraved silver plaques of complex form, set with corals and bearing two inscriptions, likely a presentation, dated 1294 a.h. (1876 c.e.). The fine miquelet lock inlaid with engraved brass and dated 1209 a.h. (1794 c.e.). The exceptionally long, octagonal barrel with silver breech and profiled sight, struck with a collection number, and retained by finely embossed and engraved silver bands, one with illegible inscription. Retains its hardwood ramrod. Dated 1794. 19th century. Minor rubbing, slight losses to silver wire. Overall length 182cm. Condition III
