Description
A massive example, rare Afsharid-era work, the grips with original leather covering, the engraved guard with elongated quillons. The fine, broad heirloom blade of shallow curvature with elegant taper toward the tip, forged of very fine Persian Kara Taban wootz, with an inlaid cartouche at the right forte reading, WORK OF ASSAD ALLAH ISFAHANI. In its leather-covered wooden scabbard with steel mounts en suite with the guard. Mid-18th century. One tangband lacking, grip and scabbard leather rubbed, blade with minor wear. Overall length 101cm. Condition III
