Description
A type strongly associated with the Siege of Vienna in 1683, due to the numbers which were found in the abandoned Ottoman camp following the rout by King Jan Sobieski. The hardwood grip of characteristic form well-carved with arched flutes, the curved single-edged blade wrought of exceptionally fine Persian Karataban black wootz. Mid-17th century. Well worn, minor areas areas of pitting to blade. Overall length 38.5cm. Condition III
