Description

A popular hunting weapon adopted as a sidearm by the nobility and gentlemen at the court of Charles I. The hilt of characteristic form: the grip a single section of staghorn, the silvered mounts comprising a guard with integral knucklebow finely embellished with stags and dogs, ferrule, and pommel modeled with the heads of Julius Caesar and the owner of the sword. The lightly curved, single-edged blade wrought with a single narrow fuller at the spine, tapering continuously to the tip. 1625-1650 c.e. Minor wear, to silver, blade with minor age darkening and small areas of pitting. Overall length 80.5cm.
