Description
A rarely-encountered example of characteristic form, wrought of steel stepped and profiled base, broad head with central ridge and acute tip and socket with integral straps. Engraved on the obverse with the French royal coat of arms, comprising three fleurs de lis surmounted by a crown, and on the reverse with the sun-in-splendor, insignia of King Louis XIV, known as the Roi de Soleil, or Sun King (r. 1643-1715.) Mid-17th – early 18th century. Worn. Overall length 34 cm / 13 1/2". Condition III
