Description
The long, broad, robust blade with lengthy false edge and pronounced clipped tip, the cutting edge nearly straight facilitating thrusting, with block ricasso marked, G. NIXON & SON SHEFFIELD. With oval steel guard and long, tapering dark horn grip and german silver pommel cap. Mid-19th century. Worn overall, minor worming to grip, blade with honing marks. George Nixon was a noted English knifemaker from 1835 until 1860, and is referenced in Capwell, Tobias, The World Encyclopedia of Knives, Daggers and Bayonets (Wigston, Leics, 2011.) Overall length 41 cm / 16 1/8". Condition III
