Description
A fine example of Lucknow work, with the hilt elements, comprising guard, tangband and pommel, of silver, finely embellished in enamel in three colors representing a heraldic nilgai amongst foliage. The elephant grip ribbed, the pommel with delicately filigreed ornament. The lightly-curved blade single-edged, and forged of superior black wootz. In its velvet-covered wooden scabbard with enameled silver mounts en suite with the hilt. 18th-19th century. Losses to enamel. Overall length 88cm.Condition III
