Likely French, a private purchase example off characteristic “Mameluke” form, the elephant grips with rolled pommel and elaborately-embellished and heavily gilt guard with knuckle chain intact, the fine Persian blade wrought of actively-patterned black wootz. Retains its heavily gilded mounts. Beginning of the 19th century. Gilding rubbed. Overall length 94.6cm. Condition III
