Of characteristic form, the polished rhino grips with large, rolled pommel and carved panels, silver eyelets and tangband, and fine silver guard with flowering vines modeled in relief with a gilded center and openwork quillon terminals. The long, curved, single-edged Persian heirloom blade wrought of fine, black Kara Taban wootz and inscribed in two chiseled cartouches, ABBAS SHAH BANDE-YE VILAYET and WORK OF ASSAD ALLAH together with the numerals 18, referring to Qur’an 18, Al Kahf, : All praise is for Allah, Who has revealed the Book to His servant…. In its leather-covered wooden scabbard with large, fine engraved silver mounts, each with Ottoman hallmarks, and retaining its woven suspension cord with large gilt tassels. Late18th century.
