Description
Of characteristic form, the polished rhino grips with large, rolled pommel and carved panels, silver eyelets and tangband, and fine silver guard with flowering vines modeled in relief with a gilded center and openwork quillon terminals. The long, curved, single-edged Persian heirloom blade wrought of fine, black Kara Taban wootz and inscribed in two chiseled cartouches, ABBAS SHAH BANDE-YE VILAYET and WORK OF ASSAD ALLAH together with the numerals 18, referring to Qur’an 18, Al Kahf, : All praise is for Allah, Who has revealed the Book to His servant…. In its leather-covered wooden scabbard with large, fine engraved silver mounts, each with Ottoman hallmarks, and retaining its woven suspension cord with large gilt tassels. Late18th century. Isolated areas of corrosion to blade partially cleaned; general wear. Overall length 102cm. Condition III
