Description
Of early clamshell type, the complex steel guard composed of a pair of solid guards which have been pierced and profiled overall, and connected by a series of elaborately arched, recurved and curled bars, merging with the crossguard with long quillons and knucklebow. The massive pommel with baluster and turned base designed to balance the long blade, the grip with twisted iron wire wrap. The well-wrought blade long, double-edged, and continuously tapering to an acute point, with a narrow fuller to each side, struck repeatedly with the letter W O W. Beginning of the 17th century. Worn, minor period repairs. Overall length 128cm. Condition III
