Description
An exceptional example, each plate of thick, hardened copper wrought in several layers by brazing and riveting. The six obverse plates and their clasps finely inlaid with silver using characteristic Maranao motifs and technique. All of the remaining plates heavily silvered overall with incised borders. All plates with convex surfaces designed to deflect blows, each pierced along the edges and connected to the next by hardened bronze rings, those of the collar with original cord and shoulders particularly robust; the rings of the sleeves and waist thick and tightly wrought, those of the hem terminating in points. Early 19th century or earlier. Very minor wear. Height from nape to hem 81.7cm. MANNEQUIN NOT INCLUDED.
