Description
A massive example stocked in finely striped hardwood of characteristic form, superbly embellished with profiled and engraved silver plaques for its entire length, signed WORK OF ASSAD MEHMET MATI. The miquelet lock with profiling and elaborate silver inlay and set with a silver bead, likewise signed ASSAD MEHMET. The butt covered in velvet, with silver braid borders. The heavy, octagonal barrel forged of fine twisted damascus steel and inlaid in gold foliate designs at the breech and muzzle, retained to the stock by finely wrought silver bands. Ramrod intact. Latter 18th century. Minor wear, two small silver sections replaced in period. Velvet rubbed. Overall length 126.3cm. Condition III
