Description
An example of rare quality. The head finely and delicately inlaid in gold overall with complex flowering vinework borders and wrought of excellent black Persian wootz, surmounted by a silvered and jeweled cap. The wooden haft with red velvet center section and silvered mounts engraved with spiral vine motifs. Mid-18th century. Light wear. Overall length 75cm. The distribution of such axes and maces was reserved to the ruling Emir, for presentation to notable ministers or heroes. They are therefore quite rarely found on the market. Condition II
