Of early form, with central ridge terminating in an armor-piercing tip, and etched on each side with the arms of the Elector of Saxony, Francis II, Duke of Saxe-Lauenburg (1547-1619) or his son, Julius Henry (1586-1665.) The Electorate of Saxony was a state of the Holy Roman Emperor from 1356-1806. Originally Catholic, from the second quarter of the 16th century, the Electors of Saxony protected and supported Protestantism. This example would have seen active use for over a century, notably during the Thirty Years War. Mid-Late 16th century. Well worn, socket with corrosion and repair. Overall length 39.8cm. Condition IV
