Description
A fine example of the type, the distinctive horn hilt with octagonal grip and rectangular pommel of with large nielloed silver mounts and bosses. The broad, parallel-edged blade with obtuse tip, finely forged with double central fullers to either side, displaying an intricate pattern-welded twistcore damascus and struck with a maker’s mark. In its velvet-covered wooden scabbard with large nielloed silver locket and chape en suite with the hilt, together with the Ottoman crest and Sultans tugra. First half of the 19th century. Minor wear. Overall length 51cm/ 20”. Condition II
