Description
An early example of exceptional size. The well-wrought guard of steel with expanded, faceted quillon terminals, the dark hardwood grips well carved and fluted, the characteristic pommel scrolled and beaked and extensively studded with brass and set on each side with three silver bosses, the tangband likewise silver. The exceptional blade characteristic for the period, quite broad, with T-back and deeply-bellied, forged of numerous rows of exceptional Turkish twistcore pattern-welded damascus steel. Beginning of the 18th century. Minor wear, isolated areas of pitting. Overall length 89.4cm/ 35.2”. Condition III
