Lot 5 – A DAYAK HEADHUNTER PARANG IHLANG OR MANDAU SWORD

The grip of ironwood, finely-carved with aso motifs and retaining its intricately-woven wrap and hair ornaments. The handforged blade with expanded tip chisel-edged and convex on the reverse. In its carved wooden scabbard, retains its woven rattan sling. Early 20th century. Minor wear. Overall length 79cm/ 31 1/4". Condition II

Lot 10 – AN AFGHAN LOHAR FOLDING AXE

The forged steel head decorated and profiled, the brass haft with file work, terminating in a handle with bone grips and horn pommel, original nickeled finish intact. 20th century. The brass hilt of typical form with wire-wrapped sharkskin grip and sword knot, the straight, single-edged blade marked GEMSCO at the forte, with etched panels and a single fuller to either side. Inscribed USN and engraved with the owners name, JOHN G GRAF. Scabbard of black leather with brass mounts. Mid-20th century. John G. Graf 1927-MIA 1970-1978) was a decorated American Naval Officer. CAMPI (?) Elaborately etched in baroque motifs overall and etched VENDETTA and VAI AL CUORE DEL NEMICO (Go to the enemy?s heart.) Grip with mounts of silver finely engraved and set with inlaid mother of pearl panels, the pommel embossed and chased with a Roman profile.
