A classic form produced in Ottoman Damascus, the steel hilt possibly wootz, with rolled pommel and guard with expanded quillon terminals inlaid with silver. The fine Persian heirloom blade dating centuries earlier, broad, with moderate curvature, and wrought of actively-grained wootz damascus steel, inlaid in fine gold with a lengthy Qur?anic inscription. In its leather-covered wooden scabbard with steel mounts decorated in silver en suite with the hilt. Mid-19th century. Minor wear overall. Overall length 88.5cm / 34 7/8?. Condition III
