A rare example, with massive walrus grips of Balkan form and gilded tangband set with corals. The broad, single-edged, recurved blade with integral bolster true-inlaid with gold and superbly chiseled in relief at the forte with fine rumi vinework with fine gold panels in sunken reserve. The spine bears an elegant panel containing a single fuller running all the way to the tip, the whole wrought entirely of Persian black wootz in the famous Ladder Pattern. The scabbard wrought entirely of silver in complex Ottoman baroque motifs, elaborately embossed and engraved throughout, the dolphin head chape gilded. Latter 18th century. One grip with period repair, wood scabbard liner lacking. Overall length 74.3cm / 29 ??. Condition II
